At Mucky Pups Childcare your child’s development is paramount to us and we like to give you the peace of mind that your child’s development is tracked and that we provide activities which are tailored to your child’s individual needs and stage of development. To help us with our development tracking we have used various methods, but the one we find to be most functional is a paper based Learning Journal.
With the Learning Journal we can record your child’s development through photo and text observations. We then link the observations to the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and the characteristics of effective learning. We also carry out regular termly assessments of your child’s development, including the 2 year check which you can take with you to your child’s 2 year check with the Health Visitor, to ensure they have a thorough insight to your child and their development.
To help your child’s key worker see how your child is developing at home and to make a link between home and nursery, we ask parents/carers to send photos and observations into nursery about what your child has been doing at home. We use these to plan activities and further enhance the interests and development of your child.
We love to see what the children have been getting up to at home with use of your own photos and we are looking for ways in which your child concentrates (ie. do they pull their tongue out when playing or are they so engrossed in an activity that they are not aware you are watching them); on activities that they enjoy on a daily basis (ie. do they always go back to the same toy); any special events, (ie birthdays, weddings, new baby brother or sister); do they line toys up, make circles, always climbing in or on things or do they like things that spin; any firsts (ie first steps, first time peddling a bike, etc).
These are all ways in which they learn and we want to see them learning at home as well as in the nursery.
The folder will be kept up to date at Nursery and will be given to parents upon leaving the setting.
